Chloë and The Next 20th Century, the fifth studio album by Father John Misty, was a departure from his typical folk/indie sound as he drew inspiration from pre-1960s pop tunes and big band/jazz standards. He was looking for apparel design and various promotional materials to pair with the album’s release. The aim was to create something atypical compared to traditional band merch. Something beyond just printing the album art on a shirt and calling it a day. So we created a visual world that felt emblematic of the new sound, with unique graphics that spoke to the album’s lyrical themes. The art was used for everything from band tees to gig posters, and even included title cards for a music video.
